Some of the most notorious ladies of rap are headed to mediation to resolve their ongoing legal battle. DJ Spinderella filed a lawsuit against her former group, Salt-N-Pepa in July. She was seeking compensation for royalties she claimed were left unpaid. Salt-N-Pepa, along with their lawyer Rich French, released a statement earlier this month saying the case had been moved to mediation.

According to French, “A U.S. District Court Judge in the Dallas District today rejected DJ Spinderella’s requests for immediate relief against Salt-N-Pepa and its management, ordering the case to mediation. We are grateful for the judge’s ruling as Salt-N-Pepa have been extremely generous to Spin over many decades and attempted to settle what amounts to a divorce, both peacefully and without rancor.

He followed up by calling Spin’s approach “scorched earth” and said that there was no need to bring so much attention to a business dispute. He wished it had been resolved privately and without so much animosity.

Spin announced she would not be a part of the group’s tour with New Kind on the Block for that band’s The Mixtape Tour. She claimed Salt and Pepa had “sent her packing.” According to her Instagram post, she was “deeply saddened” by the group’s choice and stated that she received her termination notification in an email. She stated she made the announcement publicly because she didn’t want ticker buyers to be misled and think she would still be a part of the group or the tour.

The termination came as no surprise to those familiar with the latest happenings of the group. Spinderella had filed a lawsuit some time ago for trademark infringement, fraud, and breach of contract after learning she had received none of the more than $600,000 her group members received in royalties over the last decade.
