Fantagio Artists Requesting Mediation
Artists from the Fantagio label are requesting mediation to resolve their dispute. The mediation has been requested from the Korea Entertainment Management Association (KEMA). According to a source from KEMA, the artists are requesting mediation regarding their exclusive contracts and if there is any illegal business recognized, the contracts would be deemed invalid without liability.
The KEMA representative told a reporter from TV Daily that Kang Han Na and three other artists all signed with Fantagio are requesting the mediation. In April, Han Na stated her intent to leave KEMA and has been working independently from the company. According to KEMA, they have attempted to reach an “amicable agreement” with Han Na, an actress.
In late 2017, Fantagio’s co-CEO was dismissed and former co-CEO Wei Jie became the sole CEO of the company. Some have accused Fantagio of operating illegally because the dismissal was not above the board and because the agency has no board members that meet the requirements of the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry.
KEMA has notified Fantagio several times in writing of the problem.
In mid-May, the CEO of Fantagio was dismissed and a secretary was appointed to the position.
Fantagio currently represents 30 celebrities, including several big names in Korea, including Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Hello Venus, WekiMeki, ASTRO, and Wanna One’s Ong Seong Woo.
Now, the artists have requested mediation to resolve the conflicts and to be able to work outside of Fantagio and not be held to an exclusive contract.
